Chattahoochee River Shoal Bass Kayak Fishing
or maybe it’s a rogue small mouth bass? I’m not 100% sure!
While striper fishing Morgan Falls, I hooked up with this nice Chattahoochee River Shoal Bass (i think). This guy was setting right on a torrent of falling water and hit the LIVETARGET Swimbait in bronze thredfin 3.5 inch immediately as it hit the water. This shoal bass was hanging very tight to the concrete walls of the dam. I didn’t weigh it, but I’d assume this fish was in the 3lb range, give or take.
This is one of the strangest looking bass that I’ve ever caught. It was very dark in color; green and black on the back. White, blue and purple on the belly. It had black eyes. The blues and purples were also prominent around it’s lower jaw. The markings on the fish, to me, are very close to many smallies that i’ve caught; all vertical lines, no lateral line… very much like tiger stripes.
This bass was hooked and drug out from the back of a turbine tunnel of Morgan Falls Dam. In addition, I have seen many signs of a healthy crawfish population in the area.
